Frequently asked questions
How is college GPA calculated?
College GPA is the credit-hour-weighted average of your grade points. Each course’s grade points are multiplied by its credit hours; the totals are summed and divided by total credit hours.
Is college GPA weighted?
Most colleges use an unweighted 4.0 scale for the official GPA, but courses are weighted by credit hours, so a 4-credit class counts more than a 1-credit class.
What is a good college GPA?
A 3.0 is solid, 3.5+ is competitive for scholarships and graduate school, and 3.7+ is excellent. The average US undergraduate GPA is around 3.1.
