What trips ASU students up
- A+ is worth 4.33 grade points at ASU, but the cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00 — so A+ grades can offset lower ones without ever pushing the reported GPA above 4.00.
- There is no C- at ASU. The scale steps straight from C (2.00) to D (1.00), so a near-miss below C costs a full grade point rather than a third of one.
- There is no D+ or D- either — D is a single grade worth 1.00.
- ASU marks failure as E, not F. EN (failing, never participated) and EU (failing, did not complete) also count as 0.00 for GPA.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated at Arizona State University?
ASU multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours, adds those up, and divides by total credit hours. What differs from the generic 4.0 scale is the point values themselves — ASU uses A+ = 4.33, A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, and so on.
Does ASU give A+ grades?
Yes, and it is worth more than a straight A — A+ carries 4.33 grade points at ASU against 4 for an A. The scale tops out at 4.33.
Does ASU have C-, D+, D- grades?
No. ASU's scale has no C-, D+, D-. That matters because the gap between the grades either side is wider than on a standard scale, so slipping one grade band costs more grade points.
Is this the official ASU GPA?
This calculator uses ASU's published grade-point values, but your official GPA is whatever the registrar records. Repeated courses, transfer credit, pass/fail marks and withdrawals are handled by school-specific policy and are not modelled here — always confirm against your transcript.
