What trips SFU students up
- A+ is worth 4.33, above a straight A. Unlike schools that cap the reported figure at 4.00, an SFU CGPA can genuinely exceed 4.0.
- There is no D+ and no D-. The scale falls from C- at 1.67 straight to D at 1.00, so slipping one band near the bottom costs two-thirds of a point rather than a third.
- Grade points are written to two decimals (3.67, not 3.7). Rounding to one decimal drifts a full transcript upward.
- FD (failed for academic dishonesty) and N (did not complete) both count as 0.00 in the GPA, the same as an F.

Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated at Simon Fraser University?
SFU multiplies each course's grade points by its credit hours, adds those up, and divides by total credit hours. What differs from the generic 4.0 scale is the point values themselves — SFU uses A+ = 4.33, A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, and so on.
Does SFU give A+ grades?
Yes, and it is worth more than a straight A — A+ carries 4.33 grade points at SFU against 4 for an A. The scale tops out at 4.33.
Does SFU have D+, D- grades?
No. SFU's scale has no D+, D-. That matters because the gap between the grades either side is wider than on a standard scale, so slipping one grade band costs more grade points.
Is this the official SFU GPA?
This calculator uses SFU's published grade-point values, but your official GPA is whatever the registrar records. Repeated courses, transfer credit, pass/fail marks and withdrawals are handled by school-specific policy and are not modelled here — always confirm against your transcript.
